Subject: Questions on BASIL - B.A's library in Patna
Respected members,
Assalam Aalikum. Let's congratulate sister Atia for taking solid steps in the direction of fulfilling dreams of many of us. What we dreamt and planned, postponing for some future stage, she is confidently implementing on the ground. May Allah bless her with more energy, proper direction, unflinching tolerance, greater patience and perseverance! May Allah accept her efforts and shower upon her rewards that fulfill her just desires and make her wishes come true!
Kindly do suggest ways and means to make the functioning of the library better. She is a one-person-army in Patna, as of now, and needs a lot of ur support, cooperation and good wishes. She can get support from the MACET team only after they are free from their final exams.
Regarding questions asked by some of u, I would suggest that u answer them for us urself, which becomes fruitful suggestion thereby. Your direction on each of the questions raised (they are all justified questions) would reduce the work-load on sister Atia and the Bihar Anjuman's organizing team. So, kindly go ahead and provide ur valuable suggestions, free from any hesitation - I find no reason to wait and watch for the success of BASIL (Bihar Anjman's Sources of Infinite Learning) after which ur suggestions might lose their value and may become difficult to implement.
Regarding charging fees from those who can pay, I have two points to submit: (a) This helps meet the running cost of the library which can help make it financially independent after an initial investment by Bihar Anjuman. This is a recurring theme in all B.A. projects - BANEE Career centre in Delhi also follows this principle. Those who find it difficult to pay will be financed by B.A. - local chapter/ BASIL team wd judge the financial position and take decision to cut the fees or waive it completely, (b) anything free is hardly valued by people. When they pay, they demand quality and the managers are forced to take care of quality and prove to be better than any competition - they have to ensure that they offer more value to the customers than that offered by the free libraries.
BASIL would also act, as far as possible, as a conduit between the suppliers of free material and those who need them. So, BASIL would definitely try and distribute as much of free materials to those in need as possible. We need lot of volunteers on the ground who can help the Patna team. So, u may please enroll people for this purpose - those who can manage some free time for this purpose and can be relied upon to the extent that the supplied material reaches the desired beneficiary. This will need representatives in all district headquarters, subdivisional headquarters, at block levels, panchayat levels and village levels. These representatives will be the agents of Bihar Anjuman (and missionaries of Islam) who will make Anjuman's projects reach the masses and make efforts like anti-dowry movement successful. So, wd u enroll people at these levels and help make difference in people's lives? Your practical suggestions can help speed up things, for sure. Ur actions on the ground through those u trust can help implement plans and make them succeed.
